Microbiome Model
Model how your product impacts the gut microbiome

Microbiome Model
The large intestinal fermentation model at Aelius simulates the microbial breakdown of dietary or pharmaceutical components in the colon, providing insights into gut microbiota interactions, metabolite production, and the fate of nutrients and active compounds.
How It Works
Our in vitro simulation of the microbial environment of the human colon is generated using faecal samples from volunteers to develop a representative population. The model includes dynamic modelling of microbial populations, fermentation processes, and metabolite production in the colon. These in vitro models replicate the anaerobic environment and microbial composition of the human colon, allowing for the controlled study of fiber, prebiotics, probiotics, and other substrates under physiologically relevant conditions.
This model can be run in isolation using a freshly prepared formulations or following passage of the formulation through the digestion model to simulate the in vivo processes that occur prior to the formulation reaching the large intestine.
